Introduction
LLM in U.S. Law
Program Description
The LLM in U.S. Law program is specifically designed for attorneys and law school graduates educated outside of the United States.
Candidates for the LLM in U.S. Law are enrolled in two required courses, Introduction to U.S. Law and Legal Writing and Research. Except for these two required courses, candidates in the U.S. Law program choose their courses from the same curriculum as JD students and other LLM students.
Students whose native language is not English are also eligible to receive extra time on examinations and the use of a translating dictionary, provided they submit a TOEFL/IELTS score at the time of admission.
Admissions
Curriculum
While students take most of the same courses as JD and other LLM candidates, they have the advantage of access to the two required courses and exam accommodations. In addition, the School of Law is pleased to offer specialized Concentration areas within the LLM in Comparative Law:
- Business & Corporate Law
- Criminal Law
- Environmental & Energy Law
- Intellectual Property Law
- International Law
- Taxation
Pursuing one of the Concentrations listed above is optional; students are not required to pursue a Concentration.
